Next Steps and What You Can Do
DPC submitted formal comments to CMS before the December 16th deadline and will have these comments on our Web site at www.dialysispatients.org. We will also recommend that CMS implement a system to monitor changes in patient care that result from a bundled payment. This would allow the agency to have data needed to implement any necessary changes to the bundle that have had a negative impact on patient care.
We hope others in the kidney care community also sent comments that suggest CMS revise its proposed rule on the bundled payment so it addresses these issues that could harm patients if implemented. We have appreciated the effort CMS has put into hearing feedback directly from patients and patient organizations during the recent town hall meeting, and DPC looks forward to continuing to work with CMS to ensure changes to dialysis reimbursement improve the quality of care and quality of life for dialysis patients.
