DaVita CEO Ranked 80 in 'Most Powerful' List

DaVita CEO Kent Thiry was listed as the 80th most powerful person in healthcare, according to Modern Healthcare’s annual ranking of power players across the industry.

However, this is the third year in a row Thiry’s ranking has dropped in Modern Healthcare’s “100 Most Powerful People in Healthcare” Ranking. Last year, he was ranked 73rd and in 2008 was ranked at no. 23.

Perhaps the drop is correlated to the release of the final bundle rule and healthcare reform. Now that both are through, dialysis providers may not have been as active in Washington as they were the previous few years.

President Barack Obama topped the list again this year. HHS Secretary Kathleen Sebelius and Rep. Nancy Pelosi, D-Calif., rounded out the top three.

Readers nominate anyone from all industry sectors and vote to develop the yearly ranking. Modern Healthcare requires each person to choose 10 nominees in order to reduce the chances of an organized campaign to skew the results to one nominee.
