January 2012 marks the start of the ESRD Quality Incentive Program (QIP). The program reduces reimbursement up to 2% based on a dialysis clinic’s Total Performance Score, which measures anemia management and dialysis adequacy.

To better understand how the QIP payment reduction varied by state, RBT sorted the data and ranked the states by the percentage of their clinics that were penalized in any way. The following RBT SlideShow lists the 10 states that were penalized most by the initial ESRD QIP.
