CAMBRIDGE, Mass.—Former Amgen Inc. executive Robert Brenner, MD, has joined AMAG Pharmaceuticals as its new senior vice president of medical affairs, the biopharmaceutical company said today. AMAG is currently developing ferumoxytol, which is an IV iron therapy to treat iron deficiency anemia in chronic kidney disease patients. “Dr. Brenner’s extensive knowledge and experience in building strong teams, working with different government agencies and his relationships with the nephrology community will be invaluable as we plan for expected launch of ferumoxytol in the first quarter of 2009,” said Brian J.G. Pereira, MD, president and CEO of AMAG. “The addition of Rob strengthens our management team as we continue our transition to a commercial biopharmaceutical company.” Brenner most recently served as Amgen’s executive director and global renal anemia program area leader. He had been with Amgen for nine years and had been involved with new product approval, clinical trial design, and was liaison to the nephrology community, professional societies and regulatory agencies, according to AMAG.
