WIXOM, Mich.— Specialty pharma company Rockwell Medical Technologies Inc. said today that it has added Dr. Richard Hurrell, an international iron expert, to its scientific advisory board. Rockwell’s scientific advisory board advises the company on clinical development and market preparation for its proprietary iron-maintenance product SFP, currently in phase 2b clinical trials, according to Rockwell. Rockwell's scientific advisory board consists of seven experts in the fields of renal anemia, iron therapy, nephrology and U.S. Food and Drug Administration regulatory approval. Hurrell is the professor of human nutrition and head of the Laboratory of Human Nutrition and the Institute of Food Science and Nutrition at the Swiss Federal Institute of Technology in Zurich. He specializes in the iron fortification of foods, according to Rockwell. “Dr. Hurrell has accomplished a tremendous amount of work with iron pyrophosphate and is the top expert in iron nutrition at the international level, specifically for SFP, and we are delighted to have him join our Scientific Advisory Board as one of our expert consultants,” Robert Chioini, CEO and president of Rockwell, said in a statement. “As we evaluate and develop other SFP applications, outside of iron maintenance via dialysate, we believe Dr. Hurrell’s expertise and experience in the industry will be of great benefit to the company.”
