Mid-Atlantic Renal Coalition creates patient safety program
04/30/2008
MIDLOTHIAN, Va.—The Mid-Atlantic Renal Coalition (Network 5), in collaboration with the ESRD Network of New England (Network 1), has created a 5-Diamond Patient Safety Program to assist dialysis facilities with the improvement of both staff and patient awareness of specific patient safety areas. The goals of the program include the following.
The 5-Diamond Patient Safety Program consists of educational modules, which include the tools and resources necessary for implementation of each patient safety concept. Facilities may complete any of the modules, with only one module, Patient Safety Principles, being mandatory. The module options are as follows.
For each module successfully completed the facility is awarded a “diamond” culminating in special recognition for the 5-Diamond facilities. Each Network has established recognition rewards for their area, which are posted on their websites. Facilities not in Network 1 or Network 5 are encouraged to use the modules on the Web sites, but are not eligible for recognition by Network 1 or Network 5. For more information, visit www.esrdnet5.org/5Diamond.asp or www.networkofnewengland.org.
