NEW YORK—The National Kidney Foundation is accepting grant applications as part of a new research initiative focused on the Kidney Disease Outcomes Quality Initiative (KDOQI) Guidelines.
KDOQI provides evidence-based clinical practice guidelines for all stages of CKD related complications, according to the NNKF Web site.
As of July 1, 2009, NKF said it plans to fund two new KDOQI research grants each year at the level of $150,000 annually for three years. The deadline for application submission is Dec. 1, 2008.
“Continued KDOQI research will enable more authoritative guidance regarding appropriate tests and therapies,” said Allan J. Collins, MD, FACP, NKF president. “This will lead to enhanced patient outcomes, advanced patient advocacy and [to] validate, critique and improve the existing guidelines.”
The following topics have been identified as research needs for the new KDOQI initiative:
-Diabetes and chronic kidney disease
-Hypertension and antihypertensive agents in CKD
-Bone metabolism and disease in CKD
-Evaluation, classification and stratification of CKD
