HACKENSACK, N.J.—Liberty Dialysis has signed an exclusive deal with MCM Environmental Technologies to use the SteriMed medical waste machine in its Hawaii dialysis units, MCM’s parent company Caprius Inc. said Oct. 20.
Under the deal, MCM will install the SteriMed in Liberty-Hawaii’s de-novo dialysis clinics and will also retrofit existing clinics to use the machine. Liberty Dialysis is the largest dialysis provider in Hawaii and has more than 70 dialysis centers in the United States.
"The goal of our relationship is to provide Liberty-Hawaii with access to our SteriMed technology which is a key enabler of operating cost savings in the fixed reimbursement healthcare market of dialysis,” Dwight Morgan, president and CEO, MCM, said in a statement. “In today's culture of environmental consciousness, the SteriMed will afford Liberty-Hawaii with unique environmental impact such as carbon, water and solid waste footprint savings. We are extremely pleased that Liberty-Hawaii has chosen our SteriMed technology into their program which positively contributes to preserving the environment in Hawaii."
The SteriMed technology shreds and disinfects solid and liquid regulated medical waste, reducing the volume by up to 90 percent and rendering it harmless for disposal as ordinary waste, according to MCM.
"We're caretakers of people and the environment, and Liberty Dialysis allows its business leaders to make decisions at the local level that are reflective of local needs, Jane Gibbons, executive vice-president, Liberty Dialysis-Hawaii Region, added.”We're not adopting new processes and standards that drive costs up; we go with cost neutral or lowered costs. There is no better alternative than the SteriMed given that Medicare has a stringent capitated dialysis reimbursement which drives our firm to constantly seek out technologies for cost savings in this fixed-reimbursement health care environment."
