LOS ANGELES—R&B singer Natalie Cole received a new kidney from a deceased donor and is resting comfortably, her spokeswoman said May 20.

Cole, 59, had the surgery performed at Cedars-SinaiMedicalCenter in Los Angeles on May 19. She had been on dialysis since September 2008 due to kidney failure from hepatitis C.

In July 2008, Cole, who is the daughter of legendary singer Nat “King” Cole, announced she had contracted the blood-borne infectious liver disease because of drug use more than 30 years ago.

Cole had been touring in support of her new album “Still Unforgettable” while she was on dialysis. However, she will be postponing the summer tour as she recovers from the surgery over the next three to four months, according to her spokeswoman.
