NEW YORK—On Thursday night’s season finale of NBC’s “30 Rock,” one of the shows main characters Jack Donaghy, played by Alec Baldwin, put together an all-star cast to sing “We Need a Kidney” in hopes that it could get his ailing dad a new kidney.
Donaghy’s dad, Milton Greene, was played by guest star Alan Alda, and the plea garnered the help of the Beastie Boys, Talib Kweli, Cyndi Lauper, Norah Jones, Moby, Wyclef Jean, Mary J. Blige and Maroon 5's Adam Levine, among others.
In reality, the fictional plea could also benefit the National Kidney Foundation’s own awareness efforts. According to the NKF’s Web site, the producers of the Emmy award-winning show have teamed up with Apple’s iTunes store to distribute a music video online for the next six months.
The video is available on iTunes’ “30 Rock” page, and all of the proceeds from its downloads will benefit the NKF, according to their Web site.
