WILMINGTON, Del.—Genzyme has sued the Sandoz Inc. unit of Novartis AG for allegedly infringing on its patent for Hectorol, according to a July 17 report from Bloomberg.
Hectorol was approved in 1999 and is used to treat secondary hyperparathyroidism in stage 3 or 4 chronic kidney disease patients, as well as dialysis patients.
Genzyme alleged that Sandoz is planning to sell a generic version of injectable Hectorol before its patent expires in 2014, Bloomberg learned from a federal complaint filed in Wilmington, Del.
Cambridge, Mass.-based Genzyme is looking for the court to block approval of the generic version until the patent expires, according to the article.
