DENVER—DaVita Inc. announced Oct. 1 that it has been named the only kidney care services provider on the inaugural "Newsweek Green Rankings," which is list of the greenest companies in America.
For more than a year, Newsweek worked with leading environmental researchers to rank the 500 largest U.S. companies based on their sustainability. DaVita ranked No. 104 on the Environmental Reputation Score and No. 142 on the Environmental Impact Score.
Part of DaVita’s environmental strategy includes using 30 percent recycled plastic for hazardous material containers, which keeps 120,000 pounds of plastic out of landfills annually. The company aims to reduce paper consumption by seven percent, equal to 20 million pieces of paper and 2,000 trees saved per year. In addition, DaVita generates electricity with a net zero increase in carbon dioxide emissions.
