WASHINGTON—Despite a tough economy, more than 1,200 people gathered at the 29th Annual Kidney Ball Nov. 21 at the Hilton Washington to raise more than $1.1 million to fight kidney disease through corporate sponsorship, ticket sales and live and silent auctions.
The Kidney Ball is the National Kidney Foundation’s largest one-day fundraiser nationwide, raising funds to support medical research, patient and community services, professional education, and organ donation awareness in the DC region. The Washington, D.C. area leads the nation in the prevalence of kidney disease.
Ron Paul, president of Ronald D. Paul Companies, Inc. and Chairman of Eagle Bank, received the 2009 Outstanding Achievement Award for his two decades of service to the National Kidney Foundation. Paul is a two-time kidney recipient, with the first time being when his daughters were only 4 and 7 years old.
