DENVER—Gambro is working with its distributor, Bionuclear, in cooperation with the Dominican Republic’s Ministry of Health and Nephrology Society to establish a temporary dialysis clinic in Jimani, a city close to the Haiti border.
Gambro is donating five portable water treatment systems along with dialyzers, bloodlines, concentrates and blood access products. Bionuclear is donating Gambro AK 95 dialysis machines. The dialysis equipment will be installed at the Hospital Buen Samaritano in Jimani, Dominican Republic.
The clinic will treat an estimated 15 to 20 patients suffering from trauma or crash injuries as a result of the earthquake, according to Gambro. The clinic is expected to run for four to five months.
“We are working closely with our distributor and the authorities in Dominican Republic to establish this dialysis clinic,” said Nick Mendez, president of Gambro Americas. “We know Haitians are in desperate need for medical treatment, including dialysis, and this clinic is an important first step to helping those who are suffering.”
Gambro is also sending staff from the United States to support the clinic.
