NKF Council of Nephrology Social Workers’ Elections, Awards

NEW YORK—On Feb. 2, the National Kidney Foundation’s Council of Nephrology Social Workers (CNSW) announced the results of the 2010 executive committee elections, as well as the recipients of numerous awards.

“CNSW was thrilled that we had record-breaking interest in running for CNSW Office, and thank everyone who was nominated,” the organization said in a news release.

Election Results

For 2010, Denise Collins, MSSW, LICSW, LCSW-C, will serve as the council’s Membership Chair. She has been a nephrology social worker for more than 20 years and has worked with acute dialysis patients, pediatric, pre- and post-transplant, PD, as well as in the chronic hemodialysis setting. Collins is the past president of the CNSW D.C. Metro chapter, and the current vice president of D.C. Metro Chapter of CNSW. “We thank Marcia Sawyer, outgoing Membership Chair, for all of her work on the CNSW Executive Committee,” CNSW said in a news release.

The Region I Representative is Maureen O'Grady-Hamre, MSW, LCSW, who is a social worker at The Valley Hospital Renal Care Center. She is the North Region Chair of CNSW of New Jersey. “We thank Christopher Simon for his service as our Region I Representative for the past two years.”

The Region III Representative is Norma Knowles, who continues as the region III representative. She is a clinical social worker who's worked in nephrology for more than 10 years, is the co-editor in chief of the Journal of Nephrology Social Work, and is a member of the NKF Patient and Family Council.

The 2010 Region IV Representative is John Gowan, who is the Patient Services Coordinator of the ESRD Network of Texas. He has worked in nephrology since 1998, and has been the North Texas CNSW Chapter Chairperson, as well as on the NKF program committee for the Clinical Meetings. “We thank Surveen Klein who is transitioning out from the Region IV Representative role.”

CNSW Awards

“The Council of Nephrology Social Work recognizes the following national members for their exceptional service in helping kidney disease patients and their families, and look forward to the award presentation ceremony at the NKF Clinical Meeting in Orlando April 2010,” the organization wrote in the news release.
