SEATTLE—Christopher Blagg, MD, FRCP, will be recognized by the University of Missouri and the Annual Dialysis Conference for “advanced knowledge and patient care in the field of hemodialysis” with its 2010 Award for Lifetime Achievement in Hemodialysis. The award will be presented March 6, 2010, at the 30th Annual Dialysis Conference in Seattle.
Blagg, executive director emeritus of the Northwest Kidney Centers in Seattle, and professor emeritus of medicine in the division of nephrology at the University of Washington Medical School, serves as editor of Hemodialysis International, the official journal of the International Society of Hemodialysis.
He has been involved with dialysis since 1958, published more than 300 papers and book chapters, and has a particular interest in home dialysis, longer and more frequent hemodialysis, and the history of dialysis—all aimed at improving the lives of people on dialysis.
He has won numerous awards and honors, including American Association of Kidney Patients A. Peter Lundin Award for distinguished services to patients; the James W. Haviland Award for outstanding achievement in nephrology; the American Kidney Fund’s Torchbearer Award; the American Association of Kidney Patients’ Medal of Excellence; Honorary Membership of the American Society for Artificial Internal Organs; and the Indian Society of Nephrology Southern Chapter’s Scribner Award for lifetime achievement. He also has served on advisory groups for the National Institutes of Health, the Medicare End-Stage Renal Disease Program, FDA, other organizations, and dialysis equipment manufacturers, as well as working with Congress on legislation related to kidney disease.
