FRANKFURT—Next year’s proposed Medicare bundled-rate reimbursement changes could help Germany's Fresenius Medical Care to strengthen its already powerful role in the U.S. dialysis industry, according to Reuters News. Fresenius is the world’s largest dialysis provider.
“The change in the payment system will create fresh incentives for clinic operators to cut costs, use drugs sparingly and renegotiate procurement prices,” according to the Reuters article.
“Industry leader FMC, which derives more than two-thirds of sales from North America, has the greatest scope to make savings and the strongest purchasing power to squeeze lower prices from its suppliers,” the article continued. “And in the long term, FMC's cost cuts are expected to more than offset an initial decline in revenues, analysts say.”
