SACRAMENTO, Calif.—The California Senate is expected to vote this week on a bill that would make the state the first in the nation to establish a living kidney donor registry, according to a May 10 report by the Ventura County Star.

The bill would establish a nonprofit Altruistic Living Donor Registry where Californians can identify themselves as potential kidney donors. As a result, organ procurement and transplant centers would use the information to speed up the donor matching process.
