NASHVILLE—DSI Renal announced July 2 that it has appointed Dr. Mark Kaplan as executive vice president and chief medical officer.

In his new role as CMO, Kaplan will lead DSI’s medical advisory board and focus on continuing to advance the company’s standards of patient care to optimize our patient outcomes, according to DSI.

In addition, Kaplan will be actively involved in operations, from training and protocol development to purchasing and cost management opportunities.

Kaplan received his undergraduate degree in bioengineering from the University of Pennsylvania, attended medical school and completed his residency in internal medicine at Vanderbilt University, and then completed a research fellowship in nephrology and hypertension at Brigham and Women’s Hospital in Boston.

He practices nephrology in Nashville and has been involved in nephrology research on a national scale as Vice President of Clinical Research for Fresenius Medical Care.

“We are very excited to have Dr. Kaplan join us full-time as Chief Medical Officer,” said DSI CEO Leif Murphy. “Mark’s passion for quality care and his focus on nephrology research make him a unique and valuable addition to our team at DSI.”

Kaplan replaces Dr. Marcos Rothstein who retired as DSI’s CMO on June 1. Rothstein will continue to contribute to DSI as an active member of its medical advisory board, according to the dialysis provider.

“Dr. Rothstein has played a vital role in building DSI into the physician driven, quality focused leader in the dialysis industry that we have become,” Murphy said in a statement. “Marcos’ warm style and notable experience have made him remarkably successful and loved at DSI.”

With its physician partners, DSI owns and operates 106 clinics across 23 states.
