THOUSAND OAKS, Calif.—Teva Pharmaceuticals and Barr Laboratories will not be able to sell generic versions of Amgen’s Sensipar after a U.S. District Court in Delaware granted an injunction last week.

As a result of the ruling, Teva and Barr will have to wait until Sensipar’s patents expire in 2018 before commercializing generic versions.

Sensipar is approved for the treatment of secondary hyperparathyroidism (HPT) in patients with chronic kidney disease (CKD) on dialysis and for the treatment of elevated levels of calcium in patients with parathyroid carcinoma.

"We are pleased with the Court's ruling, which validates Amgen's position that the Sensipar patents are valid, enforceable and infringed," said David Scott, Amgen's senior vice president, general counsel and secretary. "Amgen will continue to vigorously defend its innovative products from infringement."
