DENVER—The chief executive of dialysis company DaVita announced this week in an earnings call that the U.S. Attorney's Office in Colorado has opened a grand jury investigation into DaVita’s practices.
The chief executive, Kent Thiry, said it appears that the investigation will exploring allegations that DaVita overused the anemia drug Epogen, that DaVita then billed the government for the Epogen, and that DaVita conducted improper relationships with doctors and pharmaceutical companies.
