PITMAN, N.J.—In an effort to fine-tune certifications to recent practice changes, the Nephrology Nursing Certification Commission (NNCC; www.nncc-exam.org) will offer two new certification exams targeted to advanced dialysis technicians and licensed practice nurses/licensed vocational nurses (LPNs/LVNs), the association announced this week.
The exams, which will be offered in October 2012, are the result of practice analysis and role delineation surveys NNCC conducted in 2011. The goal of the surveys was to make sure the exams NNCC offers match up as closely as possible with current roles.
The first new exam will be for advanced dialysis technician and the earned credential will be Certified Clinical Hemodialysis Technician: Advanced (CCHT-A).
“The surveys showed there are significant differences in practice between entry level technicians and those who have been working for five or more years," said Nancy Gallagher, RN, NNCC’s executive director. “Offering an advanced certification benefits the individual provider, as well as facilities and patients."
