ATLANTA—The deadline for outpatient dialysis clinics is approaching. In order to receive the maximum 10 points for purposes of scoring under the Centers for Medicare & Medicaid Services (CMS) end-stage renal disease (ESRD) quality improvement program (QIP) rule the clinics must:
- Complete the required training and enroll the facility in NHSN during or prior to 2012 (5 points) and
- Report at least 3 consecutive months of 2012 data (5 points).
It is important to note that facilities must complete enrollment and be activated in NHSN no later than December 31, 2012 in order to receive credit for the purposes of ESRD QIP scoring and to report any 2012 data. Facilities enrolled by December 31, 2012 have until March 31, 2013 to submit their 2012 data. Facilities that enroll after 2012 will not receive credit during PY2014 for enrollment or reporting.
This deadline is quickly approaching, and for some facilities, it may take several weeks to complete the NHSN training and enrollment process. CDC estimates a total of ~230 facilities that have not yet enrolled in NHSN. To get started, please visit the NHSN links below.
