BERWYN, Pa.—On Friday, January 25, Real Housewives star Teresa Giudice joined longtime friends and NephCure supporters Marni Sivin and Julie Dermer for a fundraiser at SoulCycle in Roslyn Heights, New York. The exercise event raised $6,000 in one hour.
Their goal was to raise money for NephCure, the only organization committed exclusively to support research seeking the cause of the potentially debilitating kidney disease Focal Segmental Glomerulosclerosis (FSGS) and Nephrotic Syndrome. Sivin’s nephew, Matthew, was diagnosed with FSGS is 2006 when he was 3 years old.
Giudice participated in the fundraiser to show support for Matthew and The NephCure Foundation mission. She met Matthew through his parents, Dana and Michael Levine, while at an Eric Trump Golf Event. Since then, Giudice has supported NephCure whenever possible. Through her accomplishments on The Celebrity Apprentice, Teresa won $60,000 for NephCure. In November, she was a guest speaker at the foundation’s annual New York fundraiser, Countdown to a Cure.
Jennifer Koppelman Hutt, host of Just Jenny on SiriusXM Stars (channel 107) participated in the fundraiser as well.
“Raising money and spreading awareness is very important for NephCure to meet our mission and solve what causes FSGS. Teresa, Marni and Julie are wonderful for organizing this event,” said Henry Brehm, NephCure’ s executive director.
The event featured SoulCycle’s signature full-body indoor cycling workout which incorporates weights and core exercises within a forty-five minute framework. Sivin and Dermer, both from Long Island, reached their goal through $100 donations from forty-eight participants. Dermer, an instructor at SoulCycle, ran the class.
