SAN JOSE, Calif.–DaVita, a division of DaVita HealthCare Partners and a leading provider of kidney care services today announced the opening of two new dialysis clinics located at 725 Ridder Park Drive, San Jose, Calif., 95131.
The in-center hemodialysis facility features 32 stations, and the home training facility includes 8 treatment rooms for peritoneal dialysis and home hemodialysis–with the potential to provide care for more than 350 total patients. The centers are expected to start delivering care within the next two months.
“Opening these new centers ensures we will continue to provide a wide range of outstanding kidney care services in San Jose, and additional choices for our patients,” said Regional Operations Director Danny Shapiro. “These facilities also expand our ability to provide education to patients with chronic kidney disease, helping delay the onset of dialysis, and ultimately creating a healthier Santa Clara County.”
Kidney failure (also known as end stage renal disease, or ESRD) is a fatal condition unless a kidney transplant is available or a patient undergoes dialysis, in which a machine filters toxins and fluids from the blood outside the body. Most dialysis patients are treated four hours a day, three times a week.
An estimated 20 million U.S. adults have chronic kidney disease, which can progress to ESRD. Most are unaware of their condition, as the disease is often symptomless until the kidneys fail. Groups at the highest risk for ESRD include those with diabetes, hypertension, or lupus, as well as older adults, African Americans, Hispanics and Native Americans.
